Thinking

Thinking

I’ve spoken about the opportunities that have allowed me to travel from time to time and ‘yes’, it does help me write, and ‘yes’ of course travelling is great and what most of us want to do at some point in our lives.

It occurred to me recently that I have spent far more time in my life just thinking ….correct …just thinking. It’s the most beautiful past time; there are no limits to what you can do and where you can go.
It is also true that thoughts can and are sometimes sad – sometimes they also conjure up troublesome situations that we have had to deal with or even possibly live with.

Positive thinking helps us through such situations, but to get to the stage where we can more reliably expect positive solutions in our thoughts, we may need to persevere – for some folk it may take years, but I’ll come to that in a minute.*

I am blessed in that I now have quite a bit of time to think, but do you know what – I have always found the time, even when I worked round the clock over a period of thirty odd years.

I have been one of those people who only need to sleep for around six hours a night which enabled the opportunity for deep thought during the night (without day time interruptions). A clearer mind hence a deeper sleep gave me the energy to think quickly to resolve problems during the day when work pressures built.

*The best discovery you can make if you are troubled in your thoughts (even more so if this happens during the night) is to practice meditation.

OK, you have come across this word, but latch on to it – it will make you a much happier person.

Meditation is controlled thinking.
Controlled thinking leads to making the best decisions available to you.

I was 35years old before I started meditating, and it was then that night time worries were pushed into a rational place; my six hours sleep were deeper. I then took time out to meditate for about twenty minutes during the day. I looked forward to those twenty minutes – if I missed a day, things began to go out of perspective again.
Believe me, meditation is as essential as eating.

Research ‘meditation’ until you find a method that suits you.
Basically, you need to imagine yourself looking down on yourself. It’s not daft – it’s fun. You will soon be able to look down on whatever is troubling you. With practice you will unravel your awkward worries and enjoy your lighter moments more. In fact you will learn to prioritise those lighter moments.

Sounds too simple? It’s not, but it takes time and the first thing you need to learn when meditating is that time is not an issue.
That is the most important rule you need to grasp. But when you do – you will start to live properly.

Oh, one other thing – be certain to make sure that your meditation time is YOUR time, and private to YOU.
Feel good about it and it overtakes eating chocolate (or whatever). Don’t feel selfish because when you become accomplished you’ll be able to help others.
Good luck.

I’ll follow on soon with some daft but true situations that my travels have allowed me to encounter – there’s a great one about 50 miles south east of Seattle, following a 6 week Winnebago route 101 trip.
